In the aftermath of Japan’s devastating 9.0 earthquake and ensuing tsunami, the death toll is approaching 700, and 10,000 residents of one coastal town haven’t been located. Fires continue to burn in several of the hardest-hit coastal areas as rescuers search for survivors amid more than 200 aftershocks. An explosion at the Fukushima No. 1 (Daiichi) nuclear power plant and problems at a neighboring plant have forced the evacuation of thousands of residents.
